What you need to know

The eight areas, in order. Every question in the test is drawn from this guide.

  1. The basics

DOOH is digital out-of-home: advertising on digital screens in public places, away from the home. Place-based DOOH puts the screens inside venues where people spend time, such as gyms and salons; roadside DOOH is the digital billboard.

A screen plays a loop: a fixed sequence of content that repeats all day. A slot is one place in that loop, of a fixed length. An ad takes a slot and plays once every time the loop goes round, so a 3-minute loop with 10-second slots holds 18 slots and shows each ad up to 20 times an hour.

Dwell time is how long a person stays near the screen; the longer the dwell, the more loops they sit through and the more often they see the ad. Reach is how many different people see a campaign; frequency is how many times each of them sees it; an impression is one opportunity to see the ad.

  2. The network

Ad Space places ads on screens inside gyms, salons and padel courts, and on in-car and vending machine screens. The advertising network runs in Kuwait and Qatar.

Every venue is on locations.adspace.so with its photo, its audience and its screen count. Gym members stay about 45 to 75 minutes per visit; salon clients 90 to 150.

  3. Planning

There are two ways to plan: pick venues on the map yourself, filtering by country, area, audience and type, or tell Target AI who you want to reach.

Target AI is free and needs no account. It matches a brief by audience, age range, income level, area, time spent and budget, and picks the venues that fit. It is an AI, not a person; Talk to Our Experts or WhatsApp reaches a person.

A plan can be changed: Fewer locations, More locations, Different area, or simply telling Target AI what to change.

  4. Quotes and booking

Get My Quote opens WhatsApp with the plan already written: the venues and the duration. The Ad Space experts reply with the quote.

Where a brand works through a media agency, Ad Space quotes and invoices the agency, which passes it on to the brand.

  5. Dates and frequency

A booking can be as short as one hour. The usual campaigns run two weeks or four weeks, longer runs are available, and the dates go in the quote request.

An ad takes one 10-second slot in the loop and plays up to every 3 minutes, all day, on every screen booked, for the dates booked.

What do I send, and how often does it play

  6. Creative

The ad is a 10-second video or a still image, and it must work without sound: the screens play silently. Screens come in different resolutions, landscape, portrait and custom, so the ad is produced to the resolution of the screen it is booked on; Ad Space gives the resolution for each screen.

Keep text minimal, with at most two or three key messages, bold sans-serif type at about 40 points or more for main text, high contrast, and a clear call to action. Avoid pure white backgrounds and flashing transitions.

Political or religious messaging, offensive language or imagery, and violent or adult content are not allowed. All content must follow Kuwait's advertising regulations.

  7. Proof and measurement

Every campaign comes with a proof of play: the venues and screens the ad ran on, the dates, and photos of the ad live.

The campaign bar on the map shows estimated impressions for the venues and length chosen.

  8. Venue rules

Venues accept or decline each advertiser and can block categories, such as competitors. An ad plays between the venue's own content, in the loop. The place does the targeting: the ad is shown where its audience already spends time.
